We use professional photographers when we can get budget. One is SLRpix. Her rates are reasonable and she is local.

We also own a lightweight digital camera that can take a slew of pictures and we can often use some of those. When we take pictures, we use a setting that gets us a really big picture size. Then we edit the picture in Fireworks to make it fit our webpage. We can also clean it up a bit if it isn't totally out of focus.

The tools used for graphics are the same ones for pictures.
