Article: Web Site Design

The design for your website is entirely up to you.  You are the only one who will be concerned as to whether it is right or wrong.  Know that there is no wrong, just choice.

Let's first discuss the structure of your site design. When you are starting out, you will normally have about 5 or 6 pages that make up your site. These can include:

  • Main or landing page;
  • An About page that tells the world about you or your company or both;
  • A Contact page where you put in your physical mailing address, a phone number (and FAX), Email contact form*, and perhaps a map to your location;
  • A Privacy policy page;
  • A Site map**;
  • And your CONTENT*** the stuff you sell or have information about.
* We recommend a content form that sends an email to you. This is a way to avoid spammers who can get your email address right off your web pages.
** A site map may not be necessary if you are pointing to all of your pages from your menu.
*** The content can span several pages depending upon what you are offering.

In this short summary, we only wish to explain that the actual design (the look and feel) of your site is a very personal thing. We can only suggest a number of tools that you can look at to decide which serves your purposes better. You can see more information related to website design in the articles section of Houston-Websites.com. And for more tools, check out the design section while you are there.

Above all else, remember: Your visitor is the most important person in your life at the moment that they chose to visit your site. Treat them well and you will get your just reward.
